REAL CHATS with Geoff Gorewitz

Geoff Gorewitz is a proud father and avid sports fan. Geoff lives in Boston, Massachusetts and dreams of one day having his own charity or non-profit organization.

PROJECT 375:
When you wake up in the morning do you know what kind of day you are going to have?

Geoff: I never know what type of day I will have and waking up can be quite a challenge for me. I am always hopeful for a good day but I certainly don’t hold my breath until I can see where my thoughts and emotions are at. I find that when I sleep too much I feel like I missed out on things and if I don’t sleep enough I feel like I am letting my body down by not getting enough rest. So waking up for me is much more challenging than falling asleep.

PROJECT 375: You seem to really love sports. Tell us, what is your favorite sport, your favorite team and who is your all-time favorite player? (we don’t expect any biased-Brandon opinions here haha 🙂 )

Geoff: My favorite sport is definitely football, specifically the NFL. I do like college football too but there is nothing like the NFL on Sundays throughout the winter months. My all-time favorite player growing up was Bo Jackson. (I am a big Brandon Marshall fan since his days in Denver, but it’s hard to root for anyone on the Jets since I live in Boston, Sorry Brandon!)

PROJECT 375: Tell us about your favorite Daddy/Daughter date

Geoff: My favorite Daddy/Daughter date is wherever she chooses as long as I am with her but it usually always involves food. We love spending time together over a nice burger, or ice cream and sometimes we will find an arcade to go play some games. She really does keep me grounded and at 8 years old she knows when to say things and just what to say. She is wise beyond her years and she gets me. Not many people in my life have ‘gotten me’ like she does and I am so blessed to have her as my daughter.

PROJECT 375: You have a tremendous amount of optimism, where do you draw that from?

Geoff: I try to stay positive for my kids. If they see me negative, down and depressed, they react the same way. I have spent so much time alone, and sad, that I refuse to let it run my life. I do all I can, to try to always show as much optimism and positivity as I can, since I cannot accomplish nearly as much in life if I stay negative. Plus, I am the guy people come to for advice and support so I need to stay as positive as possible so I can help them with their concerns or feelings. I have failed at so much in my life that I have learned so many lessons and I have gotten down into dark, dark places that ‘normal’ people could never imagine. From major anxiety and germ issues, to deep levels of depression, and even suicidal thoughts and plans, I choose to do all I can to keep my spirits high in order to live the best life I can.

PROJECT 375: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

Geoff: If I were granted one wish it would be to travel and provide random acts of kindness along the way, by giving happiness to others. I have always dreamt of having my own charity or foundation that used all donations to provide surprises to everyday people, doing everyday things, like paying for someone’s food, shopping, handing out gift cards at the holidays or paying off random layaway accounts, and other things like that. The other part of this wish would be to have a non-profit restaurant where there were no prices, and people donated what they could. If someone was homeless and hungry, we would not turn them away, EVER. I love food, and it is a great way to get to know people, regardless of age, race, gender, health, etc… and who doesn’t love a great meal.

PROJECT 375: What is your diagnosis?

Geoff: Bipolar Disorder
